Intavolatura Projects is dedicated to the art of intabulation, and specifically to intabulation in Italian keyboard tablature. Italian Keyboard Tablature (called intavolatura by its original users) was the system of notation used in the vast majority of Italian sources of keyboard music (both printed and in manuscript) in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It is my hope that this website will evolve into a varied collection of resources for those wishing to study and perform intabulations, which are an incredibly useful window on to the creative and technical processes behind sixteenth- and seventeenth-century keyboard improvisation and composition. The resources on the site will eventually include an intabulation guide (for those wishing to create their own intabulations in Italian keyboard tablature) as well as materials related to my own research and performance projects.
